More people getting nipped, tucked, Botox-ed

Have you ever looked at yourself and thought, "I could use a little nip here or a tuck there?" Lately, a lot more people have, apparently.

Nearly 18 million people had a cosmetic procedure of some kind in 2018, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. That's more than a quarter million more than 2017.

LSU Health New Orleans associate professor of plastic surgery Frank Lau says costs and recovery times have come down for a lot of procedures.

"Really, the spike has been in the less-invasive procedures, things like Botox, fillers, liposuction," Dr. Lau explained. "Those are really driving the spike in the procedures done last year."

Dr. Lau says more doctors are offering the procedures, bringing costs down even more. Botox can cost around $400 a treatment, a chemical peel as little as $150.

The most common cosmetic procedure: breast implants, up four percent from the previous year.
