Cancer cells love sugar, according to Baylor study

Could sugar cause cancerous tumors to grow?  According to a Baylor study the answer is "yes," at least in mice.

"We've known for a long time that high fructose sugar have been correlated with increased incidents of diabetes, heart disease obesity, metabolic syndrome as well as cancer," says Dr. Henry Nuss, assistant professor at the LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health

Nuss also says it's not saying that if you consume high fructose corn syrup, you will get colorectal cancer, but what they are saying is that it increases the risk for developing certain kinds of cancers and if you already have certain kinds of cancers, that it is likely to exasperate the issue.

"Cancer cells love sugar," Nuss said.  "We just have to be aware of what we are eating and try to avoid the sugar as much as possible."

And of course Nuss says it's been known that high fructose sugar have been correlated with increased incidents of diabetes, heart disease obesity, metabolic syndrome as well as cancer.
