Do beards carry more germs than dogs have on their fur?

It's a growing trend.  Men are growing beards.  One study says those beards are harboring more germs in their whiskers than dogs carry in their fur.  Researchers from Switzerland found that every sampled beard was crawling with bacteria, but the number of dogs tested proved to have lower levels of microbes.

Dr. Jeffery Hobden, LSU Health New Orleans Microbiology, on what the study was probably looking at.

I'm sure when they sampled sizes and I've been to Switzerland, and I've seen guys who looked like Saddam Hussein when they pulled him out of the spider hole, they just have massive beards, and I'm sure that's what they were probably looking at," Hobden said.

Dr. Hobden said he definitely doesn't think that is a reason to NOT grow a beard.

As a person who has a bear, 'rock on,"' he said.  "I don't think that study should deter you from growing a full and glorious beard, but keep it clean.  "If you have one of those Moses beards, then definitely partake in the shampoo."
