How many push-ups can you do at one time?  Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health is suggesting those who could do more that 40 pushups may decrease their risk of developing cardiovascular problems.

Dr. Murtuza Ali, LSU Health New Orleans Associate Professor and Interventional Cardiologist at UMC, says what believes its telling us is....

"It's not necessarily that the push-ups are making them healthier, but patients who are able to do 40 push-ups in a certain time period are healthier and therefore have a lower risk of heart disease," said Dr. Ali.  "It's probably more reflective of their overall health to begin with.

And a joint study from Northwestern University and the University of Surrey in the UK found that people who slept fewer than six hours a night may actually boost their risk of having heart disease.

"Raising blood pressure and similar heart related conditions," said Ali.  "It may have some impact in other metabolic things like diabetes, etc. and therefore affect heart health, too."
